New Home Consultation
Review of plans and proposed energy strategies. This process allows us to see what you have to start with and then we offer suggestions of what to change to achieve more efficient home. This could focus on programs such as Energy Star or North Carolina Healthy Built Homes.

Framing Inspection

  • ALL penetrations (tub, fire-caulking, P-traps, electrical, etc.) are sealed
  • Insulation and BACKING behind tub
  • Penetratons in the building shell filled with foam or caulk (not rock wool or insulation)
  • Proper sealing of chases top and bottom
  • Fans and vents (bath and kitchen; 70 cfm or greater in bath and 100 cfm or greater in kitchen exhausting outside the home)
  • Bath exhaust duct is insulated hard metal, insulated semi-rigid metal, or insulated flex duct
  • Window specs (U-value < .40, SHGC < .48)
  • Attic access blocking (10” build up)
  • Raised heel trusses
  • Preliminary check of HVAC (proper sealing of inner liner of ducts and unit with mastic and fiberglass tape)
  • All windows and doors have backer-rod or caulking/foam between the frame and rough opening

 

Insulation Inspection
  • All windows and doors have backer-rod or caulking/foam between the frame and rough opening
  • Baffles installed at exterior edge of wall allowing for proper cover over top plate
  • No gaps, compressions or misalignment
  • Batts split around plumbing and electrical
  • Batts cut around and placed behind electrical outlets and plumbing
  • Relief's cut at blocking or ladder T's
  • Use caulk to seal bottom-plate to sub-floor connection if no gasket (Sill-Seal) was used
Duct Air Leakage Test
Testing the air tightness of the duct system using a Duct Blaster
House Air Leakage Test
Testing the air tightness of the building shell using a Blower Door
Energy Star Certification
Providing all the neccessary resources to have a home certified by the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Homes program. This typically means the home is 30% more efficient than a code home.
North Carolina Healthy Built Homes Certification
Participate in North Carolina's only Green Building Program
